The Manor History & Guide

£6.50

The Manor House, Hemingford Grey is one of the oldest inhabited houses in Britain and a rare example of a two storey, moated Norman house built in the first half of the 12th Century. Mary Carter has thoroughly researched the history of the manor from the first written record of it in 1041 to the present day. It is a fascinating and colourful story.

Lucy Boston bought the house and the three and a half acres that remained of the manorial estate in 1939. She had the house restored, and in the process took away as many of the later changes and recreated it as the house of Green Knowe in her series of six Green Knowe books.

This booklet contains Mary Carter’s history of and Diana Boston’s guide to this ancient house.
